A modern and colorful take on the classic toile de jouy, this screen printed narrative blends image with pattern as it depicts a porch scene of my family home. The hand-drawn, gestural style represents the perfectly imperfect moments that make up our lives and the beauty that can be found in what may seem mundane. Color was thoughtfully applied to all things living in the scene in a way that harmonizes with and animates the still structures.

Inspired by classic still life paintings and their ability to imbue everyday objects with a life beyond the ordinary, I reinterpreted this subject matter through the lense of textiles. Aiming to transform the hidden and temporary beauty of these florals into someting surprising and unexpected, I took a sculptural approach to the rendering of this still life.
